The 'Wear it Pink' Tea Party Raises £336 For Breast Cancer Care
On the 24th October Sandown Library held a 'Wear it Pink' tea party to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care. In response, a huge turnout of locals popped by for a cuppa and some cake, helping to raise a total of £336 so far.
Check out these fab pretty-in-pink pictures from the event, courtesy of Jenny Simon:
Whether pouring teas, baking cakes or consuming them, we'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone who got involved and contributed behind the scenes, and to all those who popped in to Sandown Library to support this special cause.
Stay tuned at the FOSL blog for forthcoming events.

Friends of Sandown Library Meeting: 3rd October 2013
Friends of Sandown Library: Minutes of the Meeting held 3rd October 2013
Apologies: Ian, Heather, Wendy, Jenny, Janet
This meeting was brief due to only three people in attendance; Eileen, Louise and Laura. Louise gave apologies for Janet who is recuperating from an operation. All best wishes to her.
1. Recent Events:
The Quiz and Chips was a great success, raising £165.00. A brilliant job and thanks to Friends who organised and supported this event!
The Book Sale raised a huge £281.00. Again, thanks for your support.
Donations have also been raised to the amount of £96.00
The PA system was purchased and was a success.
Action: Ian to collect £542.00 as above for banking please.
2. Treasurers Report:
The financial situation is that we started with a balance of £859.18; a cheque for £178.81 has cleared leaving a bank balance of £680.37.
3. Building Works:
Louise, Jenny and Sue would like FoSL to discuss the building works. Property Services have stated that whilst they are able to deliver the works, they are unfortunately unable to pay for them. Staff would obviously like the community room to be completed but would like to know what FoSL think? It was suggested that the costs should be researched and reported at the next opportunity so that member’s views may be solicited.
Action: Please send any comments to Eileen for the record.
The gate would be secured with a new padlock, but again any further works outside would not have costs met by the Council and this situation does need further discussion.
4. Planned events:
Wear it Pink T Party on the 24th October.
Christmas Craft Fair – 30th November. The hire costs will be £5 per table and tables will need to be booked through staff. This event will be advertised online, council site, CP, Beacon etc,. Any further news on events, please pass on details.
5. AOB:
There is due to be a feature in the CP shortly re Sandown, focusing on ‘saving the High Street’ by shopping locally. The SBA have negotiated a good deal with an ad for £50 only, plus some editorial per ad. Are we interested – what would we advertise?
Action: Quick response please.
Funding: It is of great concern that money is being squeezed ever more and some discussion took place regarding the possibility of finding funding for the library. The consensus seems to be that it is unclear where funding may be available from. If any member has views or advice on this subject, it may be relevant to research and discuss at our next meeting?
Author Talks: Felicity Fair Thompson will be at Waterstones for a book signing this weekend, and has invited FoSL members to the book launch evening on Monday 7th. A poster is in the library with further details.
Literary Festival: If members are attending any events, it would be useful to try to obtain interest and support for FoSL there.
Next Meeting: The next meeting will be held in January and a date will be mailed in due course.
